Accents in movies

So why is it, that when a movie calls for someone with an accent... more often than not, they have someone fake an accent rather than having someone with an actual accent playing the role...

A great example: Memoirs of a Geisha, why, with all of the many Japanese people in the world, did they need to cast Chinese people in the main roles.... nothing against the Chinese, but if you're making a movie about Japanese culture... at least have Japanese actors and actresses... blah

well I think the big thing is they want to have people known in most cases, as for your example, I rather not touch that in a fear of crossing some line not meant to be crossed on myff. Still, why have some unknown person with an accent play the role when you can have someone famous who can do a semi-ok accent play the role.

I know, I am a movie freak myself, but sometimes you just have to accept the fact that hollywood people just want money in the end.

Yea, i know they'd rather have someone well known in hopes of bringing in more viewers, it just frustrates me a bit.

If you think about it it makes those that have the potential to be good actors/actresses, and have the appropriate and real accent, it kind of ruins their chances of getting in something big. I guess Hollywood just doesn't want the hassle of finding new talent.
