Is one of the most flawed things I have ever seen. it quite literally is a situation in which you need to spend money to make money. Heres the situation: I need to continue working at the registrar's office as it generates an income AND they need my assistance there (their words not mine). So after talking to financial aid today, they tell me the only way that I can get work study funds is to reduce my subsidized loans... which translates to my mother having to pay more so I can get some pay at school.

That is a load of ****.  I hate how the system is set up really.  One year I was going to be denied work study for something similiar until the entire library staff vouched for me and managed to get my university funding.  So instead of the federal goverment paying my paycheck, it was the school instead.  It was pulled off becuase I was the only one trained for my postion and needed me on day one.  That meant no time to train another.  I was needed.  Perhaps they can do the same for you.

Hmm well that sucks really. I was doing work study at the college dining hall my first year then I guess my parents started making to much money because I didn't qualify for it my second year. Luckily for me they just hired me on as one of the regular workers.
Yeah maybe if they need you bad enough in the office they can work something out.

Yeah last year when I went over my work study the registrar's office paid me out of their own pocket because they wanted me to stay so bad. So this year I hope not to do that... but lets face it I probably will. I work like 12 hours a week and make close to 200 every 2 weeks.

i thought about getting workstudy here at school but realized i can make MUCH more in 1 month at a part time job than i could make in an ENTIRE semester at workstudy...which is only 900 per semester...or $1800 PER FREAKING YEAR. you cant live on 1800 per year even if your not on your own......shouldnt there be some kind of minimum wage here? i meen its a job for crying out loud...

oh it is above or at minium wage.  They just adjust your hours to the point you get your money at that pay.  for a couple of years I was working at the campus library (the job mentioned above).  Since I had worked there a couple of years and technically was a supervisor (had to be one since I worked all alone in the library at night), only the upperclassmen who have been there for sometime had less hours than me.  We all got the same about of money in the end, it just depends on how fast you get it.

Besides, workstudy, some times you get to do nothing except babysit people in a computer lab in case someone has some computer troubles or babysit a library, or something else like that.  It is reccommended and perfect for doing homework at those times.  Whe homework I did was done at such times.

Actually at UMASS you can earn below minimum wage, I know that for a fact. I only earned 7.75 an hour, when minimum wage was about 8.25. It was horrible really. UMASS does not like to give students money, that is one thing I seen for myself and it is so stupid.

Yeah i hate how when you get aid in one area they can remove from another. However as my college costs such a crazy amount i dont think i can ever get enough aid so that they take it from another source.

That is true. I think it is messed up they can do that in our school too. I mean it hsould be nonprofit yet they are making money from work study that does not get used. It is really dumb and angers me.
