Schmall's place

A good size of a house located in the center of town is where Schmall has taken residence and runs his province from. The house is two storied, 4 bedrooms upstairs, a large room with tables and benches downstairs with a kitchen, and a office where Schmall can be seen busily at work with papers all over his desk. Messengers dart in and out of the house as they relay messengers from Schmall's office and out and about the town of Validus. Some even leave the town in the direction of other towns and villages around the lake.

The cook can be seen busily working in the kitchen and a couple of servents can bee seen cleaning the place up for it is obvious the place has not been used for sometime. A servernt always break off from her work to show any guests to Schmall's office or to the common room and offers a drink.

A knocking is heard against the door.

"What a place. For such a man to go from Barkeep to a Lord. I hope there are no formalities. Just calling the Emperor "His Eminence" gets awkward after a while."

As I stand, people keep passing me, totally ignoring my presence and entering the abode.

Schmall looks up from his work at Beanbaker's voice. "Welcome matey!" exclaims Schmall, "formalities? Bah! Call me by any titles and I will sick Sparky on you. I get enough sirs and Lords around here. Do you have any idea how much work there is? Everyone has something to say about how I should run things and this is only including this town, Validus. The others either dont know or dont care about me yet. I have two lords in the area causing me trouble. They will have to be straightened out later. Anyways, what do you think so far? I havent made any real changes yet. The town is already self-sustaining."

"This place was already a welcome place, and I'm pretty sure it will just get better, unlike Kishinston.... but anyways, these lords that give you trouble, is it something I can be of assistance of?"

Looking out one of the windows while ending my sentence, I see Koku and Archaic getting kicked out of the fishing place. "Well well, they're already making friends." I turn back to Schmall. "Although my main job is guarding at the capitol, I am, I guess by technicality, a soldier, and extend my services here if ever needed."

Walking in bloody I make my way top the kitchen where I get washed up and then start preparing a meal using whatever ingredients I can. By the time I am done a feast has been made. "My maido training was not just to become strong, it was laso to learn basic survival needs." Taking half the food I look at the two of them, "You guys can take the rest."

"Thanks, I appreciate that. Once I gain control over this town completely, I will go after the pesky lords. From what I have been hearing about them, I would rather just get rid of them. Depends on who goes really. If its you, you can haul them to the capitol to be judged. Archaic can just kill them for me. I can go for either path, which ever is easier. I dont have any blessed tea here for you yet, but help yourself. Someone left a whole wine cellar well stocked downstairs. So grab what you want."

"Although I appreciate the offer, I only came for a friendly greeting, plus alcohol does not suit my ways nor my taste. I have some issues to attend to elsewhere, and I shall bid you good luck with your new territory." I grab my helmet and quietly make my leave, weaving through the many messengers and patrons.

*Archaic done with his tour of Validus makes his way up to Schmall's house and can smell a fresh cooked meal. Deciding this was as good a time as any darts into the house and follows the smell. Finding the usual suspects in the room Archaic nods high to them before jumping onto the food and wrapping his body around it as to keep everybody else. Digging in Archaic speaks with a mouth fool.*

"Oh this is good food you have Schmall... fitting of the rather gaudy house. Still do you pay all of these people or are they slaves? Doesn't matter. Oh this food is so good I think I'll take it to go Hahahaha."

*Archaic darts out of the room for a minute before coming back and placing it on the table, half gone of course.*

"Just kidding I'm not that much of an a-hole unless there is blood involved. Schmal, BB you guys can have the rest."

Schmall makes a quick sandwich out of the food and eats at it between papers he is reading. "These people are not slaves. I can not afford to pay them properly yet either. So I provide them food, shelter, and a set of clothes each since they were worse off before I got here. They like the arrangement and I do intent to pay them all properly when I get the taxes flowing in," says Schmall between bites. "Koku, I hear you killed the old man who offers fishing to tourist on Serpent Wharf? What was up with that?"

With food in my mouth a "ch" can be heard. Finishing off my grand sandwich I swallow and get ready to speak. "He was a bad man who only wanted to kill serpents. He was a lying man who over hunted these poor serpents. I decided it was about time for the serpents to win one. I will kill all who do not respect the serpents who were here before us. "

"Sometimes I wonder," muses Schmall, "what exactly nature wants. I believe nature always seeks a balance. A balance in the elements. A balance within an given area. If there is no balance, things will become dreadful. Look at any given grassland. If there are too many carnivors killing and eating the grazers, the grazers would die off and then the hunters would either be forced to find more food or starve. A blanace allows them to all live in peace and harmony. That is what I am seeking here. A balance."

Schmall takes a moment to skim over a message past to him by one of the many men and women racing in and out of the office. He looks back up and continues with a glint of anger in his eye after reading the message, but his voice is cool and calm.

"Right now there is a balance between the people and the serpents. Yes, the people harvest them, but so doesnt the wolf kill the rabbit. Unlike the rabbit though, the serpents get to fight back. Notice no boat ever ventures in the shadow of the mountain island? I do not know exactly why, I just know there is a lot of rumoer and myths about it. The fisherment are terrified of that shadow and will go all lengths to avoid it. So for now, there is a balance, so stop murdering people!"

"So Schmall, we can kill animals for keeping balance in nature, but we cannot kill other people with the intent to keep balance? I am one who favors the merciless slaughtering of some as to prevent an over population of humans. Plus, its really fun and delicious at the same time! Hahaha"

*Archaic smiles as he looks over to Schmall before running away and jumping out of a closed window... despite the door being just a few feet away.*

"A balance you say. For someone who thinks for nature you know little. If it is true you harvest one hundred a day, then the balance is dwindling and you are making them much more aggressive. You are also getting rid of them, and at the very least decreasing their genetic variation causing them to eventually dwindle down in numbers then all die from the same thing. A balance you say... don't make me laugh. You harvest more then you need to, and as such you are just going against nature." With that my fist get clenched again.

Thanks," Schmall turns and jots something on a paper pinned to the wall behind him. "as for the discussion of nature, I hate being cooped up in here. I ache for the sun, the stars, and the russle of the leaves in the forest. I think we just see things differently when it comes to nature. You see humans as a parasite, I see them as part of nature. Those that I despise are those that have no respect for nature, what she has to offer, and the balance.

Walking in I have a red trail behind me. It can be seen that there are heads in my hand. Walking over to Schmall I place them by him. "I found these in the bar, I do not know if any of them are significant or not. I read somethign about rebel;s so I figured I would just see if any of these are them. If not I do not care, they were disgusting people anyways."
