American rap music

Yeah im voting for the last option on this. Its not that i dont appreciate the rhythm its just that the themes need to die. And no i do not believe that having a good beat makes up for the subject matter.

now i have lsitened to some Jpanese rap before and some of it is dirty as well, im not going to lie but i have also head songs about turtles working together to build a house out of straw!

I think that the popular rap is a load of crap filled crap with a gilded crap outside packaged in crap. Apparently underground rap is more about the struggles people have and are much better then popular rap. Still the popular rap is so dumb it makes "Kuso-Merican" a very true statement for here.

For the most part I feel that rap is just a tragedy to the English language, HOWEVER, there are certain beats in some songs that are passable and thus only the lyrics suck 100% of the time.

I think that is one of the benefits to listening to music in another language. The beats could be good, and if the lyrics are crap it is ok because you may not understand them.

Oh in there is one other thing I forgot to specify, I only listened to that cursed music when I was at a party and thus thoroughly... out of it. That may be the only way to listen to rap and not kill your brain cells, but thats only because they are already dying.

Everything you just said is why I love Rammstein. The music is great the lyrics sound great in German, but the english lyrics are unbelievably horrible.

I hate it and try to block it out if I can. It is especially irritating to hear  at 12 am when the music should be quiet as it is passed 11 pm. It does not help the personal belief that many uneducated people like rap.

Have any of you seen 8-mile?  The idea of rap spawned from those that cant actually sing (so i believe).  there are some that do a good job and you can actually feel the emotion coming across.  they are also well written.

What I hate is that rapping has a tendancy of forcing ryhmes.  For example, I have heard fun and rum forced to ryhme.  They like to drop entire syllables to make ryhmes or just barely whisper the last few letters and ephemsize the key syllable they want to complete the ryhme.  This is what really annoys me.  I butcher the enlish language at times, but this is just horrible.  Cant stand it.

Rapping for the sake of rapping is pathetic.  Rapping with good ryhmes, true reasons (good, bad, or anything in between), felt emotions, flowing lyrics, and I want to acutally be able to understand you singing.  Oh wait, those are the same requirements I have for all singers.  Guess rappers need to step it up some to be called singers thens.

Ok now after reading a certain post, I must actually defend a certain aspect of rap music. That is that in the beginning rap actually meant something and had a message. Also, the performers were actually slightly skilled. Therefore before anybody truly bashes ALL rap ever made, they need to think of the old 1980s rap. Also as much as I hate to admit it, Tupac actually was a slight poet at times. :\

I re-read my post.  Sorry, didnt get the message quite across right.  I was distracted.  There are some out there that are good.  Check out 8-mile.  I enjoyed it.

"Me, we.'

im sorry i see some pretty messed up things labeled as "ART" being in the field that i am in, and alot of professors even like this poem, but i think anyone who produces something like this....

ARG!

I think that it must depend on more then that. I think that those can go well when talking about unity in a war or situation, but that alone is rubbish. However, still let's just separate the popular rap from the rap that are basically well written poems that have a meaning.

I find most rap appalling, for rhythm, and I find it obnoxious, egoistical of the artist, and overall unnecessary.  But it is poetry, and I can't slander that.  Music is poetry, even if it is just instrumental, so I find rap bad, and its topics demeaning sometimes, but there are some good parts and songs.

But, that is really all I can say, for I know those that think the music I listen to is from satan himself (It came in a blue box that smelled like a tuna sandwich and peaches!!!).  So, the words may be fine (sometimes), but the beat just kills it for me.
