bats are interesting. I like them of all sizes. There noses look a little funny. It has been a while since I seen them though. There were a few where I used to live. It was great to see them flying at night.

yes i have, it flew real close. i was hanging out with my friend at that pond where we scream animal noises at people, but at night. the bats were flying around getting food, and one close in to my face. the dim light was able to light up its face enough to see it, and its face (from the front) looked like a dingo's. plus, those bats, were eating the mosquitoes. there were a ton of the bugs around me, so i think the bat decided to get a free meal

Yeah, bats are great biological insects that help a lot. They are great environmental protectors. The fact they may carry rabies is only a small matter. Blood bats however are more scary and would freak me out if they were where I live.

Thats a nice solid post there, 48 GC!
Anyways, i see bats alot, or at least i used to before moving to the city. Noone else would notice them though. Nothing strange, just fly byes. It would seem awesome, but my favorite animal is a moth....so yeah.....

moths, I do not mid them. However, I think Japanese beetles are better because they start as the grubs that kill lawns. Too bad that bats do not eat the, though, as no one wants to have those around.

if my friend didnt point them out in the first place, i might have thought the bats flying overhead of the pond were just a ton of small birds, and the bat i met wouldve made me run for the hills

It is hard to tell a bat from a bird at dusk. I go by the incorrect rule that if it is night it is a bat, and if it is any other time (including dusk) it is a bat. It works for the most part but there are a few, rare cases where birds are out at night.

I have actually had to catch and remove bats from my house on two separate occasions. It was rather fun because if the lights are on they just fly around in a circle until they get tired and then land. At which point you can easily grab them, and they are not very mean at all.
On a side note, one of my cousins had an albino fruit bat as a pet, and she neglected to mention this until I noticed some white creature flying about while we had dinner.

It is awesome that they had it as a pet, but I do find it odd that they would let it fly wherever it wanted to go. Where would you find an albino fruit bat anyways?

That reminds me of Ace Ventura. What was it...guano? The word for bat poop?
|
Koku
|
guano is indeed the word for bat poop. It apparently has a lot of things that are bad for human intake. I would to step in some, and I would hate it more if it hit me with some while it was flying
|
Beanbaker

I dont remember if guano was a good source of fuel or fertilizer. Probably fertilizer. So, if you eat anything agricultural from Texas, remember, it may have guano in it, but safe to eat.
|
Koku
|
Indeed, it is like how many places use manure for fertilizer, but it is all the food is safe to eat. It is unpleasant to think about though. What is not unpleasant to think about is having a bat of my own to take on flights (walks for bats)

One use of bats i heard of was during WWII. An american saw potential to use bats as target-seeking weapons. Special incinerator bombs that were light enough to be fastened was developed (it was about 1 to 1 1/2 lbs of napalm I believe) and were tested. The point for the weapon was that the bats would be dropped by bomber in a special container that folded open, and tens of thousands of bats with the napalm will fly into the cover of the Japanese buildings (which many were the traditional medieval style and made of thick rice paper) and the explosives would go off at the set time. The fires would destroy the whole city, but the weapon was never approved, since the atomic bomb ended the war.

the idea with the bats was clever and might have work but your completely right about the atomic bomb, though i think we could have found a way to end the war with out using those bombs

There could have been another way, but it was not done. It was horrible, but the bats would have the potential to be just as bad. By the way, bats as weapons sounds ingenious. Maybe we should attach knives o them all and see what gets done.
|
Billgar
|
ah....trained pets........i was thinking about that earlier.
|
Beanbaker
|
I dont think attaching knives to bats would be efficient, for i think theyre pretty timid around humans. Maybe making feral bats would make it work, or somehow using the killer bee's gene for huge aggression in gene therapy may make them true nighttime assassins.
|
Koku
|
Well I also figured it would help them kill other animals, maybe even other bats. I had no intentions of them to be used to kill people.
|
Beanbaker
|
Well thats different, although lobster knife fights are way better than bat knife fights.

I used to go to this summer camp where they had those big fly strip things, and it was always really sad because the bats would get attracted to the flies on the strips and then they would get stuck.... it made me sad, bats are so cute

Let us agree then, one of the most coolest things to ever fly the skies are the wonderful bat.
