Best HandwritingSo in typography turns out i have the best handwriting. For anyone who has seen my handwriting this seems like blasphemy, but let me explain. Writing like normal my letters are still atrocious, HOWEVER when im writing letters 10 inches or larger i can do pretty much any font free hand and so each letter in under a minute(outlines only, filling in takes time). So i just wanted to brag for a bit about it.

Your ego knows no bound in the area of bragging (half kidding). That is good to see, hopefully the class will not be too intensely difficult. Did you ever find the device you needed?

Yes in the mdoern world it is known as a type gauge and he apologized. as far as difficulty it is the class wchich gives the second heaviest amount of homework and we have tests on fonts and their history every week(yeasterday i spent about 5 and a half hours on the non-research part of the homework...just for that class!)

Sounds like 10 inch outline letters is more like art work than actual writing. Granted the skill of "writing" can be seen as art work anyways. Anyways, my point being is that it sounds like it would be easier even though longer at such a scale.
as for that gizmo, its good to here that you got that all straightened out. Hope there was a cheap one at the book store.

I think it would go for at least 20 dollars, but it is for somethign like art so I can not imagine it being any less then $50.00. As for the class itself, that really sounds like a headache to me. good luck when you get to the cursive font, if you have to do it. That will no doubt be very, VERY challenging.

Note on the haberule, modern "type gauge" cost $3...its like a thin platic ruler with numbers on it and some holes.
