Dorm room on the sun

No my room is not on the sun, and nor is it particularly high, but my gosh it is toooo hot! Its night, there are no lights on aside from my laptop and TV, and yet I am still sweating despite just sitting still watching the Roddick match. I think the reason is the lack of wind as well as the fact that heat rises and I'm on the top floor... so it must get trapped here?
Schmall

Ouch!  Do you even have a window to open in order to let in the night air?  I remember not being able to sleep in my first dorm room bed until I dropped my loft bed down to proper height.  All the heat was being trapped up agains the cement ceiling.  It was stiffiling.  I hope you can figure everything out.  Worse case scenerio, you will have to buy a small fan for yourself for when you sleep.

Oh the windows are ALWAYS open and a fan is ALWAYS on.. it doesn't help. It only get worst last night when I was playing rockband with like 8 people. Yeah.. 8 people in these rooms isn't that much, but once you calculate actually playing the game and having the lights on... oh man you like melt.
Schmall

Are you able to take the rockband game and stuff down to a common room and hook it up to a public tv?  That would help a little right there.  It would also give you more elbow room too.  Of course this would have to be outside of quite hours so that no rules are violated.  I'm just trying to lend an extra mind to the heat issue.  Granted there isnt too much you can do until it starts to cool down outside.  I just hope you heater will be working come winter though.
Beanbaker

If the place is facing south, that may be why, so you get the hot air coming in, but I'm no expert in meteorology... my room is usually the same, even with everything open and fans going, no cross-breeze or anything comes in, so it gets hot.  If its a ventilation, or sealing problem, there might be little you can do but sweat it out.  You will find out if it grows abnormally cold in the winter.
Koku

It will never get too cold, the heaters will kick on before hand. Also, my room seems good for the most part, it helps that my roommate keeps his large fan on all the time.

Wait but what about air conditioners? Last year when i lived in dorms we had central air and it could get as frosty as you liked it, the only uncomfortable parts were right when the weather changed as they would shut off the AC but the heat would still be there.
Archaic

We don't get to control the AC and the windows are not the type that support them anyways. So it also turns out that my room is actually hotter than any other room on my floor, and thus I have the hottest room in Grayson (in all likelihood that is). Its just ridiculous. Also Schmall... I'm not sure if you have seen Rock band or not, but its not the type of thing you want to move around a lot... especially down to the ground level with the only common rooms.
Koku

Yeah it is too big, would attract too many people, and would probably be seen as noise problem too. As for not fitting in the room, you can always find a way to hang up your small fan on the window using yarn. My friend did that.
Schmall

Archaic, I have never seen Rockband set up.  Thanks for the info though.  I always imagined the drum set at least would be a bit of a pain.

As for cooling the place, can you get your windows open?  I used to leave my dorm room door open and place a large floor fan there to blow the hot air into the hallways, effectivley pulling the air in through the window.  Best at night when you can get the cool night air.  Trap it, close the place up, draw your curtains, and you should be able to keep it somewhat cooled down until at least noonish.  If nothing else, the breeze alone should be helpful.

Give it a couple more months and the temps will drop.  ;)
Koku

The air up here is hot no matter if inside or out. As such it is just a disturbance to others. The only thing you can do is get a large fan or just keep the door open with both windows open. It may help but probably won't/ Keeping the blinds down will helps slightly though. Maybe if you put the blinds down and get those car windshield reflectors for the window it may do something...
