Enemies

What is something that someone has done to you that just made you SO FRIGGIN MAD that you can't even think straight?

I think with those cases it is when you call the kennel to come grab some dogs. Someone needs to take action. You sound like you are already almost enemies with them, you might as well just make them realize their problems.

enemies....don't make me laugh!!!! Here's the story (whether you wanted it or not...) Our Downstairs neighbors have min-pins (miniture doberman pinchers), 2 of them, and they have NO training what so ever. They bark ALL day long, and bite, chase people, jump, get into our trash when we put it on the porch....so they're there, and we get diesel.....who is a REAL doberman pincher...not the rat version. and their dogs come barreling out one day....loose...like they always are, and start biting him...and he tries to eat them. I go put him in...so he doesn't hurt them, and then go down to let he know I've put him away, and they can have the yard....and one of the little F***ers BIT ME!!! I let it go...being neighborly, and continue on with life....well...they KEEP comming after us...whenever we took Diesel outside, and the neighbors let the rats out, they came after diesel and one would run back and forth infront of his face, distracting him, while the other would attack him from behind....One day...the neighbors were out front, and we had Diesel out back almost 100yds away from the front of the house, and they weren't even paying attention, and those things came after him again...so I lost it!!!  I grabbed a leash we never used, and I went downstairs to the front porch, and handed them the leash and said "This....this is a leash....it keeps little dogs away from big dogs", turned around and whent back upstairs...when I took diesel out later that evening, her drunk BF got in my face, SCREAMING at me...and when I threatend to call the cops, his buddy tackled that giant gorrilla inside...then the neighbor started in on how "we've never leashed our dogs, and you knew that, and we were here first, and we're NEVER going to leash our dogs, and they're just curiouse, and they're just little, and it's not OUR fault your dog NEEDS to be on a leash..." all kinds of crap.....SO.....the war is on...and if her dogs bite ANYONE that I know again...not only am I going to call the cops...but in maine state law, and I quote " Any dog who HAS had it's rabies shots that bites another person or animal MUST be quarentiened for no less than 10 days. If the dog has NOT had its shots, no less than 45 days." End quote

So, tigereyz and I have a dobermen pincher.  He's 80lbs, energenic, handsome as can be, and one of the most friendly dogs you will meet.  He just doesnt like other dogs getting behind him.  He must have them in sight at all times and hates it when they  charge up at him.  We are aware of this and warn other dog owners before we let Dezul get too close.

The nieghbors downstairs have too mini pinchers who are never on leashes and bite people.  They have no training and dont listen to thier owner.  The boyfriend of the owner dont even like them.  they have attacked dezul a few times and even tigereyz has felt thier teeth.  It got to the point that we even took a spare leash down to them and just gave it to them.  Boy did that tick them off.  Now we carry vinegar in a squirt bottle.  Vinegar is like a mild form of mace to a dog.  It stings thier eyes and causes something like an asthma attack, effectively stops them in thier tracks.

As for when we take dezul on long walks, we have had a couple of instances.  We had already walked past this woman's place (known for being a bit of a crazy drunk) and had Koorlic and Drieton with us.  They were well ahead of us and we spotted a known dog come up and greet them.  Tigereyz has met the dog before and knows its a good dog.  As mentioned before, Dezul is not with dogs that are strange to him.  We called out to the owner that our dog is a mean dog and asked her to put her dog under complete control.  We waited a good 5 minutes before continuing our walk.  The dog was just simply on the otherside of the house untied.  So the dog charged up to greet dezul and almost lost his nose as dezul snaps at him.  The old women is telling for her dog and its not listening of course.  I had to hold its collar and pet him till tigereyz had dezul well away.  I let go and to the dog took off.  I had to scare the dog away by taking off a sandel and beating a telephone pole to make loud noise.  The old women had the nerve to yell at us to keep our dog under control.  we promptly called the cops to have them tell her to put her dog on a leash.  we made the call so that there is a report on her in case it happens again.

Another time is when a man zoned out and his pitbull actually attacked dezul while our friend was walking him.  we are just glad he had an experienced friend with him who gain control of the dog and put it inside for the owner for he never even seemed to notice as he sat on his swinging bench in front of his house.

The town as a whole is pathetic.  they are nice and polite until someting happens against thier ideal conservative, catholic ways, then they think they are above the law.  we have had issues with this small town and cant wait till I finish my education and and can move away.  Couple more years to go at least.  Maybe more.

~NOTE~
I made this as a topic as Idiot dog owners under general.  decided to move it here.  bit repeatitive, but you will see our frustration better this way.
Tigereyz85

some minor corrections so ppl don't get the wrong idea....Diesel is NOT a mean dog...he plays just fine with other dogs...SO LONG as they do not charge at him, or suprize him by comming up behind him. and Second, if the dog that attacked diesel had been a pit bull...we would no longer have a dog...it was in fact a boxer, and the owner just sat there and watched as the dog yanked it's leash out of the owner's hands and ran after our dog.
Koku

Well that soudns ;like somethign you do need to get the cops involved with. They can probably get the animals taken away at the very least, and may be able to be prosecuted for something like negligence. If you get bit again and you have the marks, call the police, if you catch them near your dog again outside a fenced area take a photo for evidence. Everything you explain here can be brought to court to have the dogs removed. There is no reason to not follow the laws set up, they need to learn that the hard way. f they continue to give you trouble then find a way to get a restraining order on them, that will always be fun.
Schmall

the problem is that the boyfriend lives there and is one his way becoming an officer in some sort of law enforcement agency around here.  I also think he grew up here so the town will instantly be bias towards him.  we are just waiting for them to bite us or the dog again so that we can take pics of the bite and call the cops.  the dogs are requred by state law to be quarntined like tigereyz said for at least 10 days if up to dat on shots, 45 if not.  The owners will have to pay the vet for all the boarding fees too
Koku

Well now that he may be going in law enforcement do be careful, it can get pretty bad there. Luckily he can not always be on you r cases giving you tickets and what not or else you can probably get him kicked off the force. Also, if he gets in trouble in any way you can always have somethign against him to make him not able to become a cop, which means he would have to do something more minor. Still, the situation is rather icky.
Schmall

For now they ignore us and we ignore them.  We all keep track of one another so that we dont have another dog fight.  The neighbor waits for us to go in before he comes out and if he is out first, we go across the street.  Of course I secretly hope that the dogs dash across the road and get run over.  Nothing pain.  something like a big rig and a splat.
Tigereyz85

I don't want the dogs hurt....I might say I do from time to time...but it's not their fault that their owners are morons.
Beanbaker

I LOVE MORONS!!!  They're so funny.

It may be possible (I think, from watching those stupid court shows) that you can sue them if the dogs attack you, and maybe your dog too, but it might just be best to get the police involved, or just avoid them as much as possible.  Owners are responsible for their pet's actions in their custody.
Schmall

When it comes to something like suing them, I want them to have a bad history first.  Get a couple of offical complaints recorded at the police station and get the dogs quarintined at the vets.  This way the vet can be a character witness and the reports against them will also be used in the court.

Right now, the guerilla of a boyfriend is being okay.  Its the true owner, the girlfriend, who runs hot and cold, and provides no discipline for the dogs.  She want everything for her dogs, not caring about the rest of the world and how it operates.  It blows.

Thanks though beanbaker.  Each thought that adds to solving this problem counts for something.
Koku

If you sue I will loose all respect that I have of you. Suing may help your life, but it can be crippling to others. There are better things to do, even if it means getting rid of the dogs via callign a pound. While they will be distraught, they still have their house and food. If you sue they may not have those and it would be horrible.
Schmall

I personally dont care for suing.  Takes too long.  I rather take measures into my own hands by calling the cops about unleashed dogs, making the dogs be quarintined and the owner paying the vet for the 10 days of boarding, and other means to get the dogs on leashes.  I dont blame the dogs.  I blame the owners for thier incompitence (sp?).  Of course, if I needs stitches from thier teeth, the owner will be paying for them.

As for a pound, the Aroostook county doesnt have one.  The local cop in charge, he simply takes unclaimed strays out back and uses a 50 cent shot and a shovel to take care of the problem.  Hate it.  Its only rumors I think.

But Koku, I dont sue.  It solves nothing.  I go after the problem.  If you broke my car, you are fixing it or getting me a new car.  If that doesnt work, I will find a way of getting even.  Sueing is a coward's way of solving issues.  Means nothing in all reality.
archaicmessiah

Calling the cops may also not solve the problem as much as create unwanted animosity. The best thing to do is to confront the owners and discuss the problem. Also as for the cop taking out dogs, that would have to be a false rumor as it would be considered animal cruelty and he himself would get arrested. I mean, if those rumors are spreading already, surely an investigation would have been launched.
Koku

Indeed, chances are they would just take the dogs out of the county into a kettle. As for what you said Archaic, they tried talking to the people but they won't listen so a mediator (the police) needs to be involved.
archaicmessiah

AH I apologize.. I had so much catching up to do, I did what I hate and only skimmed through the replies. If that is the case than yes get the police involved, but not for malicious intentions. Using the police as mediators in this argument is by far the best thing you can do. Also, it will alert the police as to your situation, thus if anything were to arise in the future, they will trust you more so than before.

I get the feeling not many of you understand how a small town in a rural area works.  There is a no more than 5000 people living in and around the Fort Kent area.  I say area on purpose.  the town it self may only have a few thousand at most.  This is not including the college students who add an extra thousand.  If Duty (the head cop) decides he wants to do something in his back yard, there is no one investigate him.  He has half the department in his back pocket and the other half are too young and there careers would be at stake to challenge him.  Sure, there is a state cop that lives in town, but he drinks right beside the local cops (figuratively speaking at least).  He grew up in this town and has the same mentality.  The border patrol cares not for the on goings of the town so long as it does not deal with Canada or the border.

No, there is little that can be done about the local cops.  They all grew up here so the older people (40 years or older) all back them up despite how they treat the college age and under.  They all just think we need a little discipline and need to have an eye kept on us.  I can go on and on about the cops here.  I have dealt with them and caught one of them twice twisting the law and called him one it.  He ran like mad when a dozen teenagers stormed out of the house to confront of him for illegally snooping on my property (happend a while ago).

As for calling them about my neighbors, so long as I get one of the younger cops, I report and complaint will be filled.  This way if something ever does happen that severe, a history will be on record and will be held against the dog owners.  I know the cops will do nothing.  Its history I want established.

The only reason for us to ever sue them, would be if their dogs actualy caused damages. and as for the pound, like I said before.....this is NOT the dogs fault. They are doing what they are bred to do....with no alpha, they assume leadership, and they are defending their pack from a strange dog, or person. It's the owners who are compleatly to blame in this situation.
First of all, they never taught their dogs to behave. I confronted our neighbor about this when I was bit, and her argument was that they were adopted....that's a load of crap. there are MANY dogs adopted all over the world....ours being one of them, and they are able to learn how to adapt to their new enviorment....if you work with them.

Second....even if they don't belive in training their dogs, they need to put them on a leash....this would prevent them from biting me and diesel in the future....but they think that because they were there before we were, that their somehow special, and don't need to leash their dogs.

If calling the cops and filing complaints does not work....all calling the pound would do is hurt the dogs..the people would be sad....but it's the dogs that would be "in jail" and would end up being put down as unfriendly....I'd rather get the people in trouble....since this is because of their ignorence, than to have the dogs put down when they get to the pound. Like I said in the begginning....the only way I'd actualy sue them is if their dogs caused damages.....for example....my dog...though a big dog, is a very delicatly built dog(doberman pincher). If one of those dogs were to grab onto one of his back legs, it would easily rip his tendons in his leg....should something like that ever happen....you bet your butt that I'd sue them for damages...I'd expect them to pay for ALL the vet bills, and if he couldn't walk again, or had to be on meds or any other expences because of that, I'd expect them to pay for that too. But I do NOT belive in sueing just to get ahead in life.
