Illustration projectHo hum, I've decided to finally start on a project I've been thinking about doing for the past few years. For some reason I really want to illustrate a deck of tarot cards. I know absolutely nothing about tarot cards, but I just think it'd be a fun thing to do. So far I have drawings for four of the bazillion cards in a tarot card deck.... meh oh well... amusingly enough, I've just discovered that bazillion is apparently an actual word, since firefox didn't say it was spelled wrong.... nifty...

Yes there is actually alot going on in the decks especially depending on the designer who created them. They are more than just a death card. Each card is laiden with hundreds(sometimes literally) of different symbols that can be interpreted in different ways depending on the cards placed near them. It is a truly massive undertaking.

Which ones are you doing? The standard design, original design, some other design?

Mkay so I've changed my mind and the project. I figure since there's a lot of symbolism in each card that I don't want to have to research just yet, I'm just going to do a regular deck of playing cards. Still a lot of work, but a lot simpler of a project. I'm going to base each suit on a fairy tale set of characters. So far I'm thinking Alice in Wonderlad for hearts, Little Red Riding Hood for maybe spades? and then I was bouncing a few other ones around, maybe Goldilocks, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, I dunno, any ideas for the other two suits?

I saw this quote, and after some time of laughing, I thought of you guys.
"Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died." -Steven Wright (1955 - )

I was cruising around on Deviantart the other day and found someone who's done something like that. A whole deck of cards in some theme.
