Music - why?So this is something that I've wondered about for a while now, what is the purpose of music? In the past it served as a method of preserving history, a way of keeping traditions alive in terms of oral storytelling, as well as an element of rituals. But in this modern age, what purpose does music serve? Is it merely entertainment, or does this idea of there being a deeper meaning and purpose to music still exist? And if there is a specific reason, is this true for all types of music or only some? Do some genres of music hold more value, be it sentimental or cultural or whatever. What makes music important if it is at all.
I don't know, it think it's an interesting topic and I'd like to know what you guys think

I think that to an extent we still try to convey our messages through our music but it also stimulates our brains.
Sort of like chewing gum I suppose.

I suppose musics fucntion is story telling as delilah basically said, but at the same time, we don't need the actual stories, its okay just to listen to music even if there are not words, or if you do not understnad them. I suppose musics greatest goal is to inspire emotions or match them.
