One of the better plays I have readFor my premodern/ Modern Japanese Literature class we had to read Chusingura (The Treasury of the Loyal Retainers) and I have to say it is no wonder the play was a big hit for its time (and if allowed to be put on today). There are a few quick but good fight scenes in it, and a lot of tragedy. There is also so much in it that it is easy to miss a few things unless one pays close attention. One of the main characters Yuranosuke was a great character who brought in some of the most memorable moments in the book shown himself to be a superman like character even when drunk. It is based off of a true event (the 47 Ronin event) which makes it all the more better. It is definately worth reading if you like things such as sword fights, tragedy, blood, and on occasion dark humor.
