Play DohFor Halloween last year my residential area in college had a little celebration. With it, prizes were handed out, some of which were play doh. With help of my friends I got 7 different 1 once tubs of play doh. I got no blue, but I did get black, white, and two different reds (one more purplish red and another a bright pink-red fuse). I have little use for it, bhut it is fun to have.

Yeah that atually sounds like an awesome prize! The night after moving into the residences for freshman year(the only year we get housing) there was a casno night with fake moeny. One kid was given a huge stack by the people running it becuz they were friends with him. However i definately won the most out of everyone, and i only played blackjack the whole time.
They told me to save it and bid on the biggest prize at the end. However i was informed it was a microwave and we already had one for the kitchen in our suite. Anyways, i spent like 12,000 on a cat shaped nightlight that i threw away at the end of the year anyways.

That sounds great, I think the play doh was the best. I got all the colors they had, I made sure of it. I did not use it much though. I think I can count the number of times I used it on my fingers, and maybe one foot too.

Ever heard of Clay-O-Rama? I have been trying to find some cheap play doh around here (there is none) so that I can get my friends to play (like koorlic). Its an old game. Make a critter, get some d6's, paper, pencils, and you are ready to go. Each get one thing of play doh and you and your friends get to duke it out. Google it. You should be able to find it with ease. I would spend quite sometime typing out all the cool rules. A lot of fun and I want to play it!!!

I remember eating Play Doh when I was young. I don't know why either. We would make complex things by using the squeezer thing that made shapes out of the stuff and make up some kind of name for it. Has anyone heard of peanut butter play doh? We were supposed to make it in the second grade but we never did.

I don't remember what it was, but the other day I ate something that tasted like play doh smells like.... it wasn't happy

I wouldnt image it would be happy. I can understand why children eat playdoh though its colorful and can be made into delicious looking shapes! Children are full of color and awesome! JUST LIKE ME! Boring adults become desaturated.

Yes it made the most realistic blue spaghetti. Although I have no idea what color or shape it was. Just crayon flavored. The one thing I hate is how adults have "no imagination". Phbth. Laziness.

I hated playdoh, it always smelled weird and got all dried out ans stuff... super lame

Some adults can have imagination but only the cool ones that choose to never grow up! We are the real super heroes that make things like children's cartoons and other stuff for kids.

Play Doh is great it has the ability to cure boredom.
For instance I was at work the other day alone waiting for others to come back which took about three hours, I ran out of stuff to do and became very bored. Then I happened to find some play doh, though I'm still not completely sure why it was in the kitchen to begin with, anyways I made a penguin and stuck him in a clear plastic cup with a sign that says help now he's on top of my refridgerator!

Nice. I do like the fact you can make structures that last for a while with play do, and once bored you just re-wet it to make it good. That and the fact it is edible which to me is funny. Also, it made me realize how tempting fresh play doh smells. It smells like a fesh cookie.

It may smell like a fresh cookie but it most certainly does not taste that way! Still I found that playdoh structures did not last that long and even when you wet it again... it was never the same.

I never bothered with adding water to play doh. It makes it a bit slimey for you can never work the water into it properly. I gave up on it years ago.
As for making things, play doh is definatly useful. You can make anything. Esp if you have mulitiple colors.

One of my friends makes things from clay...like cellphone charms. they are really quite awesome actually! Her skill with it is immense. What she creates is worthy of being sold in stores, but she chose to go into architecture instead of products design....

Hrmm that is actually rather cool. Although I would argue that making something out of play-doh and making something out of clay is entirely different. Clay has the ability to easily retain its shape, especially when baked, where as play-doh crumbles. Also, I would (and have) drank out of clay cups my friend made, but if someone made a cup out of play-doh I wouldn't drink from it as much as smush it down and make it into a replica of Mr. Bill.

I think people do not respect play doh enough. If done properly, things can last for a pretty good amount of time when not touched too often and when made appropriately.

Yeah but thats a big thing not to touch something. Lets face it, if we see something nice we want to hold it in our hands to check it out closer. While you can do that with clay, doing that with play-doh ruins it. Thus the best you can get is a nontouchable bust that will last a few months at most.

Haha I remember the starburst commercial where a boy made a bust of a girl he liked out of different flavors of starburst.
Also, when clay dries, it stays dry, and you can paint it and stuff. I guess you can paint dried play doh with latex-based paints. That might actually be more labor efficient, for you don't have to make Play Doh unlike clay, and it doesn't matter what color the play doh is, since you're painting over it.

Or you could just make the play doh figure out of the right colors and then paint over it with a clear gloss just to help hold it together.

Lol a bit unrelated but another reason why 3d teachers hated me is that i would always pick up other peoples work when talking about it and then they would say things like dont look at the bottom or something....and there would be like crap there, and i would think...okay i ight suck at 3d but at least i TRY no to be sloppy. Then the teacher would be like.."dont you feel any shame touching the work of others?" And i would be like "No" And then once she was all"what if someone picked up your work?" Then i was all smartass like "then i guess they would be able to se the details better." and she was all what if it broke, and i was all "I wouldnt care im just gunna throw it away anyways, then they were all C

Nice, no wonder why they did not like you. Still, the fact that they do not want you to pick up the work is foolish. A true piece of work should be able to be picked up. If it breaks then it means it was not made well enough.
|
Beanbaker

That's true, plus our dimension allows us to pick up objects and look at in, IN 3-D!!! If you can't pick it up, then it really isn't three-dimensional. 3D movies however are just specialized 2D images. And if the object is a scale model of to-be a bigger piece of art, then you should be able to see all sides because of the different angles people see.
Also, if I was going to make something out of play doh, there really aren't a lot of color options to choose from. Plus, a clear yet hardening varnish may be a little hard to find and/or need a few applications to make a thick enough coat.
|
Billgar
|
There are infinite colors to choose from! You can miz differnt playdoh together to get special colored play doh! JeesH!
|
Koku
|
Indeed, there are at least 20 colors of play doh, which is more then enough to make just about every color. Also, there are probably some clear varnish/ gloss out there you just need to look.
|
archaicmessiah

Yeah I would agree with the two above me, there are a surplus of colors of play doh out there that you can simply mix and match. Also as for 3D objects that you can't pick up, they are still very much 3D and of equal artistic value than ones that you can. However, while the ones that you can pick up allow you to examine them more closely, the other ones are designed specifically with exactly what humans can see, thus you normally wont see details on the underside.

I find it is always good to be able to examine things fully. It also shows that it was made more durable, and durable= good in my book. If somethign was thrown together last minute and looks good goes against something that has a lot of work and is durable, I would give it to the latter (mainly because I would break the former).
