UH ohJust a weird scenario
Say a person has multiple personalities and they say they're going to kill themselves does it then become a hostage situation?
Now if one of the personalities kills theselves but does it to kill another of the personalities is it then murder instead of suicide?

i dont know if it would become a hostage situation because its not like the police can't exactly rescue the other peronalities from the suicidal one.
as for the second question depending on how many personalities there are it could be considered a murder suicide or multiple homicide then suicide but is this really relevant because in the end it was all just different parts of one persons mind so it would just be suicide right because one person can't be tried for killing themself, and murder is one human killing another human then i dont think you can murder the other minds.

Actually I think it would be possible for the police/ a negotiator to be able to talk to the homicidal/suicidal personality and persuade it not to kill itself (or the other ones)
as for the murder I think it would only be right for whoever it is to decide to rule the death as a murder and not a complete suicide beause at least one part of that person didn't want to die.... they weren't right in the head that should be noted somewhere.

whether it is noted or not you cant murder a personality and what if both of the personalities want to die they just want to die in diferent ways?

either way it should be like a partial murder not that it would really matter either way only one "person" is dead.
Don't you know that most of the time when someone has multiple personalities there are more than two and at least one of them is not aware of the others? No matter what one of them is not gonna want to die... so in a sense they're murdered

there is nosuch ting a partial murder and if only one person is dead thats suicide unless they killed some one else and they might not want to die but thats not murder thats suicide its still one person killing themself

Unless they killed someone else? then there would be more than one body
I still think that it should be said that at least a part of the person a rational and didn't want to die perhaps they didn't even know they were going to die.
and partial murder should become a new term for these types of cases just because I don't think it would be right to call it a complete suicide. Multiple personalities are different people one killing the other is just like commiting a murder.

Let me just get something straight, multiple personality disorder, according to my professor who is a clinician with a PhD. confirmed what I believed already- multiple personality disorder does not leave the different personalities does not mean that the person does not know what they are doing at all times, and can remember what the other "personality" did. As such if the person commits, or threatens to commit suicide, it is not unlikely that he can switch to a different "personality," after all that is why the other personality would exists. As such the stupid answer I will give is that the side threatening to commit suicide will get jumped and tied up by the other sides, creating a new hostage situation

Ok I believed that in some cases there was at least one personality that was not aware of the others so would have no idea what had happened while the other personalities where in control of the body.

There may be ONE or two cases of that, if any (think of photographic memory, many claim to have it, and only one or two cases have been approved). That is a false belief about the disorder actually. While people may have multiple personalities due to a very traumatic event such as sexual or physical abuse when young, those personalities are not separated from eachother. There would have to be some serious damage to the control lobe in order to have the two personalities not communicate with each other, and even then it seems unlikely.

Identity the movie addresses this somewhat.
I really don't want to ruin the movie for those who haven't seen it. It's a good movie, well worth seeing.
