I stand up and look the man in the eye. Slowly asking, "Why did you stutter?" I put my jutte away, and pull out a quasin petal to eat. Before I eat it, I look into his eyes again.
The man quickly runs back inside in desperation to escape and to try to evade dying. He knows beanbaker has too large of an advantage and that he does not stand a chance in winning now. _________________
With new energy I charge for the man, my heavy armor clanging with every step I take. I try to run my foot into the door before he can close it all the way.
"Stop this foolishness! I will not kill you if you just surrender and give back the stolen items! I know you do not want to die! And I can spare you from the one who sent me in the first place!"
I await for the man's response, foot in door or not.
There is no response, as it seems the guy is already making his way up to the second floor. About to die, the thief must be trying to hide any evidence. _________________
I walk through house, and up the stairs. "Calm down, please. I am a patron of the law, not a murderer, I would've liked to have avoided this whole fiasco in the first place..."
When I make it up the stairs, I stand and analyze what he is doing in front of me.
Forget you, I will not let you out of here, I can't. I must fight till the end. One day you will end up like me, just you wait. When the time comes there won't be anyone to save you." The thief starts to smile as his pupils start to contract. He goes in to slice at beanbaker but misses in his blind rage. As such he just swings the sword again, cutting beanbaker only slightly.
"I refuse to fight you now. You talk as though you know who I am, without me knowing exactly who are."
I attempt to grab his non-weapon arm firmly to keep him from wobbling all over the room. "Who - who are you? And why do you choose to die in such a pitiful manner, at your last breath you continue to fight when there is a possibility of life?"
I let go of his arm. Letting him get some room between us. I hold out my hand. "If you answer these questions and take my hand, I can spare your life and help you justify your causes, if they can be. I can help you."
"You think you can help me. What a fool you are. You can not help me, noone can help me. You must die, or else I must die!" The man goes to attack again but beanbaker easily dodges the attacks. The man now swinging wildly has lost all his senses. _________________
"Well I know I can help you with something if you at least tell me what the matter is. The only fool here, my friend, is you."
I push him slightly out of the way to look around the room for anything that could possibly be stolen or hold/hide stolen goods. As I look, "...and what do you mean, when you said I would end up like this?"
The thief starts to laugh menacingly. "You are doomed to die on this pathetic world like everyone else, and no doubt you will be killed with fear. You are doomed, if you think I will tell you anything you are wrong. I will take what I know with me to my grave." Without warning the thief takes off the top to his armor to reveal a very scarred body, with two deep gashes in particular with one going vertically and the other horizontally from one end to the other end of the chest. The new bruises cover some of the scars, but these two large scars are unable to cover. Soon the thief impales himself with his own sword, cutting deep. He then pulls the sword up, than to the other side of his body. Still alive he pulls out his insides while laughing in a terrified, psychotic fashion. "You...will...die..." with those words the thief falls forward, dead.
Spoiler:
beanbaker finds the money stored in a crate, and a container of small bottles, all but one of them is broken
"It didn't have to end like this. Such optimism a world like this has. Since he is dead, I can collect what Koku wanted. Not proud of it though."
I take his sword and cut off his own head, saying nothing. I cover his body with a blanket, and take the head, sword, and stolen objects with me as I leave the building.
Beanbaker makes his way towards the lake where the Captain of the Imperial Guard was relaxing. HE appears to be in a better mood now as he plays with the wass. _________________
I place the stolen goods down first, then the sword, then the head. I sit down.
"He was the strangest crook I ever saw. He wouldn't tell me anything, not a motive, or even a name... kind of sad. True, he killed and deserves punishment, but he seemed too desperate and distracted for a criminal."
"Who knows if he deserved this punishment or not. He only killed humans and there are plenty to go around. He stole from me which angered me, but really it was just GC. He is guilty of greed but that is about it. For your efforts to maintain the peace I reward you with this medal. This money will be returned to the bank, and surely this incident will be forgotten quickly. Go get some rest, it looks like you need some." With that the commander goes back to watching his wass run around happily.
