I just watched all 76 episodes and the 2 OVAs of the original series, and it only took me a week to do. It was just so good I couldn't stop watching it, especially towards the end! I can understand why its hailed as one of the best sports anime out there, because frankly, it is the best sports anime I've seen.
I will only say this; if you liked the movie Rocky, then you will also like Hajime no Ippo (known in America as Fighting Spirits.)
Oh yeah, and just to brag about something else, but I was one of the last winners of Geneon's last swag give-away, and I received a packet of gauze that has the Fighting Spirit logo on it.
